Quotes of the day

* At early morning…

Wife: Kartik, you are late again for office.

Me: Nope, I am just becoming Lenny.

Wife: !!

2 Months, 1 Day

.. I have not seen my son.

.. I have not done any shopping (other than some junk food and beer).

.. I have not watch any movie in theater.

.. I have not stop thinking about ‘BLR Sucks’.

In BLR

* Just say ‘Hi’ to me, if you are in BLR. I’ll be here 🙂 Even, after journey of 22 hours, I am very much fresh like lime soda. Work is not yet started, but getting into it. I have joined Comat, where very familiar guys – Jace, Parthan and Kushal rocks.

Thanks guys for warm welcome!

Looking back at year..

* It has been really good (and bad) year for us. I managed to achieve 60% of my wish list in 2007 and yes, Kavin is our great achievement of the year 😉 I was almost 1/2 year away from home and looks like that 2008 will be almost same for first quarter 😦

* We had great new year party at office. K and Kavin also enjoyed some moments! The best part was movie The school of Rock. Event management was very well done (TM of our HR :)).

* Not going to outside for any party. Listening: Us and Them (Pink Floyd) and trying to fix dupload issue(s) with my damn slow connection.

Ahmedabad Office Visit

* Even it was short notice, I got ticket (last ticket in Bhavanagar Express) luckily! Thanks to our receptionist Rochelle! Reached early in the morning on Friday and again it was headache to get rickshaw with meter working properly! I have to pay 50 Rs (Standard rate for any place for stranger ;)). We have got nice guest home at Ahmedabad. With warm welcome, my all usual weakness from traveling went away in seconds. Took some pictures from 8th floor. Buildings, Houses, Peacocks!

* Day started with meeting, thank God, it was really good meeting than our imagination from previous experiences. Fixed some technical issues. And then we went to our new office. Awesome furniture, spacious area and yes, very good connectivity 😛 Again, went to GVP and came back late evening. Ah, before that, Ashok helped me to book tickets for Freed.in! Again thanks to Rochelle and of course Ashok. You rocks man! We then visited Reliance Fresh near Vijay Char Rasta. Damn good (and cheap) vegetables and food things.

* Nirav came early in the morning. Had nice tea and breakfast. Office and GVP visits. Nice trip so far, except my wifi in laptop, didn’t worked. Came back in Shatabdi Express yesterday night.

* How can I forgot to say thanks to Komalbhabhi for nice food 🙂

3 years

* I just realized that I have completed 3 years in Magnet on 10th May. I have seen people coming, staying and living like they were never been part of team!

/me thanks himself for keeping faith 🙂

Re: How To Minimize Your Value to The Company

* t3rmin4t0r wrote a really great post “How To Minimize Your Value to The Company“. Here is my views:

– Answer questions on devel forums – Yes. I used to maintain some forums, which gave me some ‘pet’ name!
– Write a technical blog – Yes (sometime!)
– Live the company values – Yes
– Write cool hacks – Yes.
– Have a serious hobby – Yes.
– Contribute to an open source project – Yes.

It depends. All of us know that ‘How much business you bring to company?’ is the core question. But, I am not feeling that my value has decreased or become minimized yet.

GNUnify ‘07

* Schedule is out! I will talk about my favorite “Debian Packaging”! Be there 🙂
* There are total 4 people from my office as GNUnify speakers! Arun and Amaya are giving their first talk, while Vijay K gave nice talk at Foss.in/2005.

GPG Session at Office

* I knew that it will be heavy, but I was committed to do that. I took session about GPG in my office during MM. Or May be I need to make such session more simpler 🙂 Well, Slide and other things can be download from here. I did some research and found nice page about generating your own ‘Web Of Trust’ graph! I spend some time of 31st to convert these scripts to Python also! Here is my graph!

HackFest01: Lessons

* Lots of learnings! As I mention before, I tried to get festival-gu working with minimal hack of festival-te. I come to conclusion is it is now job of some what more attention and feedback from others regarding language specific stuffs. But, I also found that festival-te debian package also need to apply upstream patch(s) to work correctly. (see: bug: #404463). I also found solution of Kline to our IP from oftc.net’s IRC channels!

* I hardly sleep for 15 minutes in front of my lcd during event. Pizza was good and thanks to bigbazaar! Thanks to everyone for participation. We are planning to have next HackFest in starting of Feb. See also Nirav’s post about this.

Hack till now..

* You know that we have hackfest in Office. Nirav wrote about it.

* So, what we have hacked till now? We started with introduction, ideas, quake3, Pizza, movie, free hack session. I did some r&d on festival based on festival-te for Gujarati language. Telugu team did really great to work and it can be called hacking (specially to force Unicode work with festival). I also updated gnome-orca package based on feedback of Mario Lang (Accessibility Team). Finally, moved to Ubuntu edgy (some part was remaining..) at Office  (with chrooted Dapper!) and feel not much special except Firefox 2 and new graphics.
* Arun/Vinay took interview of Nirav (and me – most of the questions were N.A. to me!) and it was good exercise.

* People are feeling sleepy as Vishal is playing K-Series songs now.. :0
